Day 1 Destination Door County

By 7:44 PM

Finally the day arrived and we left early this Monday morning for our mantripping.com and chickvacations.com Lake Michigan Trip. So far so good I am just ready for bed after this eventful day. We started out the day leaving the Chicago area bound for Kenosha, WI to a diner we have heard so much about called Frank’s Diner and it was greasy good! When we walked in there were two seats right in front of the grill so we had fun watching the cooks cook on a small cook top. It was a blast and Frank’s is highly recommended as a good stop by for good food and great service.http://www.chickvacations.com/plugins/editors/jce/tiny_mce/plugins/readmore/img/trans.gif

We got back on the road passing through Milwaukee. We will be in Milwaukee shortly so we decided we should keep on moving so we could get as much daylight hours in our first overnight stop as we could. We chose Door County, WI because we have heard great things about the area including, great people, food, and nature. Our first stop in Door County was the spectacular Cave Point County Park. The trees were beautiful, and the chiseled rock formations were beyond any expectation I had. It was a great place to get a little bit of walking and fresh air and see beautiful fall colors.
After we left the park we decided to head to Fish Creek, WI where we were staying at the Parkwood Lodge for the night. The Parkwood Lodge is in a great location in Door County and has beautiful grounds as well. The lodge has an indoor swimming pool, hot tub, game room, and great places to meander to see the great colors. The Lodge is also located across the street from Peninsula State Park. The rooms were nice and it looked as though the beds were new. Overall it was a great place to stay in a great location and accessibility to all of Door County’s best places. The rates start at $59 a night and go up from there depending on peak seasons.
Once we were all checked in we decided to explore Door County more before we went to eat so we traveled up to the tip of the peninsula where you can meet the ferry to take you to Washington Island. We had heard about the windy road at the tip in Northport, WI and had seen pictures of it as well so we were excited to fall’s beauty with the road. We were not the only ones who had this idea. This road and the colors are a photographers dream for the perfect picture. After shooting video and all photos were taken we decided to head to dinner.

Knowing that there was only one brewery in Door County we decided to try the lone one. Shipwrecked in Egg Harbor, WI is located in a cute little building and they have a full menu along with six types of beer to choose from. I am not a beer person but I tried them all and they were ok but I was not a fan. I did have a pulled pork sandwich there that was very good and smoked perfectly. Monday was a very busy day so after dinner it was back to the Parkwood Lodge to go to bed and start the day with the best breakfast in America before heading out to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
